Not long ago, typical of the many concerned Somalis in the Diaspora, surfing the web for a glimpse of news from home, I perchance stumbled on WardheerNews.com and was hooked for good. Before I even knew I became an avid fan and a frequent visitor of the site. A news medium founded on objectivity, professionalism and with critical news analysis and editorial, not to mention the open forum where multitudes of the most opposing ideas are exchanged, the WardheerNews group has certainly set the bar higher in establishing one of the premier Somali news web pages in cyber space. In these difficult times of uncertainty and chaos, when our beloved country’s very existence is in grave danger and the most vulnerable are enduring horrendous deprivations and immeasurable misery, when voices are raised, events unfold and the day-to-day struggles continue, WardheerNews has proven to be a reliable source of news and information delivered in unbiased fashion and presented in fair and complete picture as events develop back home. In a time of deep mistrust and abundance of skepticism, WardheerNews has won the trust of its readers by presenting a public forum and commentary, free for all where opinions are exchanged, policies are thoroughly and vigorously examined, criticized and validated. This medium of exchange facilitated communication and contributed to the enhancement of understanding between communities by bringing them closer and allowing them to see from the standpoint of opposing groups and the concerns troubling others. Truly, this is a great service to the public, thanks to the professionalism of the WardheerNews group. Informing, educating, agitating and advocating that which is core to the wellbeing of the Somali people has become the trade mark of WardheerNews. Among its regular contributors are some of the most highly respected intellectuals in the society, men and women of great conscience and status, such as the former Prime Minister, His Excellency Abdirizak H. Hussein, the well renowned Professor Said Samatar, Bashir Goth, a rare and exceptionally inspirational prolific writer, Mohammed Mukhtar, a voice of reason and a true patriot, not to mention the regular editorials of WardheerNews itself, a source of enlightenment and objectivity. It is truly remarkable and worthy of praise that in its very short period of existence, to be exact in its first anniversary, WardheerNews.com has evolved into one of the most popular and trusted sources of information for a large segment of the population both inside and outside the country. This notable act of achievement is not a small feat considering that the dedicated group of young men pooling their efforts to serve their people have also, like everyone else, their share of responsibilities to family and friends, yet choose to carry on this noble act without compensation. This surely is a sacrifice worth acknowledgement. Therefore, on behalf of a thankful and appreciative community, allow me to take this opportunity to stand up and pay my respects for an outstanding job in serving your people and wish WARDHEERNEWS a very happy anniversary and long and fruitful life. It is my wish and dream that one day, while sitting at one of the azure beaches of Somalia to spread out WardheerNews paper and read it calmly in a land of peace, brotherhood and prosperity.
