This is not the first time that they get away with their atrocities. In the Deir Yassin massacre over a 100 unarmed civilian villagers,[half of them women and children lost their lives at the hands of the Irgun and Stern gangs. In Sabra and Shatila, thousands of civilians were butchered at the hands of the Christian Phalangist militiamen in Lebanon when the war-criminal, Sharon, allowed them to enter the two refugee camps which were under his control at that time. Then there is Jenin and the current onslaught on Gaza. The current massacre has no parallel in history. The Zionists used new bombs that are similar to white phosphorous bombs and shells that burned and suffocated babies and old women. Let us not forget how the martyr Sheikh Ahmed Yassin was blown up with a guided missile after coming back from the Fajr prayers. He was a crippled wheel-chair-bound 80 year old man accused by Israel of being the spiritual leader of Hamas. The atrocities of the Zionist regime would fill a whole book. At the start of the war, the West and some Arab counties watched the cold blooded murder of Palestinian women and children with indifference arguing that Israel needed to teach Hamas a lesson. According the West, it was Hamas that started the fighting, and it was Hamas that killed Israeli civilians with their rockets. In their sick twisted minds, the life of one Israeli civilian is worth more than the life of a thousand Palestinian children. The fact that the Israel was killing children before the current onslaught, by preventing crucial supplies from reaching Gaza, is completely ignored. The fact that Gaza was a big prison for millions of Palestinians was ignored. The fact that Hamas is an entity elected by the Palestinian people was ignored. The fact that Hamas launched missiles in response to the land, sea and air blockade imposed by Israel was ignored. The fact that Hamas was trying to defend itself against the routine targeting of its leaders by Israel was ignored. But again what can we expect from countries that killed thousands of civilians in cold blood. The United States massacred millions of Native Americans. They used to hunt them like wild dogs. The same United States that sheds crocodile tears for the people of Darfur is responsible for the death of millions of African slaves. How about Hiroshima and Nagasaki? How about Mai Lai in Vietnam? The British, the architects of the Zionist enclave, have their fair share of atrocities against humanity. Closer to our home, thousands of civilians were murdered in cold blood in Midishi and Taleh in Somalia when war-planes targeted everything that moved with bombs and machine-gun fire. Thousands of women and children lost their lives, but who was counting? This was the price they paid for standing up to the colonial aggressors. This massacre followed many other massacres when the British Colonialists used machine-gun fire against resistance fighters armed with spears and swords such as the battle of Jidbaale where more than a thousands dervishes lost their lives. They were mowed down with machine-gun fire and cannons. The West and Israel have succeeded in dividing not only the Arab World, but even the Palestinians themselves. The Arabs could not even agree on holding a unified summit to condemn the war against Gaza and demand an end to it. The Doha meeting could not muster enough countries for a summit after the West and some of their Arab allies twisted the arms of the poorer Arab countries like Somalia not to attend. Even the head of the Palestinian authority, Abbas, failed to attend the Doha meeting. This is a clear indication that the West, some Arab countries and the Palestinian authority gave their blessings to Israel to destroy Hamas regardless of the human cost involved. The same day that Mubarak of Egypt demanded the cessation of hostilities by Israel in Gaza, the Zionist entity declared a unilateral ceasefire. What other evidence is required as to the coordinated effort by both countries to get rid of Hamas? The Egyptian conscience finally woke up when the operation transformed into hunting civilians sheltering in UN compounds, undoubtedly a war-crime act that should not go unpunished by the world community. But the people of Gaza will weather this atrocity. They weathered similar ones before and they will emerge from this one with pride and more faith in their legitimate cause and they will prevail one day against the injustice committed against them by the same counties that talk about human rights. They will eventually reclaim their land just as the people of Mogadishu reclaimed their city from the US backed Ethiopian Army and foiled the attempt of the Abyssinians to control the ports of Kismayo and Mogadishu. Somalia and Palestine have a lot in common. The same British colonialists that created Israel from Palestinian territories also carved large portions of Somali territories and handed them over to neighboring countries. As if the sins already committed against the Somali people were not enough, the British intends to meddle in Somali affairs again by raising the possibility of dividing Somalia yet again. The recent remark of Dr Tannock, a member of the European Parliament’s foreign affairs committee, seems to be a prelude to something sinister that is being cooked by the European colonialists. Apart from our solidarity with our brothers in Gaza, we also need to be vigilant to the conspiracies being hatched in European capitals against our own county. If we are not careful, we may end up like the American Native Clans who lost their lands to people who do not value the lives of other human beings.
