The TFG of Somalia, having been formed by non-Somalis, is without doubt a manifestation of neo-colonial activity on the African continent. However, the time has come to say—once and for all—that Al Shabaab represents the greatest danger ever to confront the Somali nation. This assertion is no exaggeration of the facts. Al Shabaab is also a vehicle of foreign manipulation inside Somalia. There was a time when a sizable section of the Somali community—people with a genuinely patriotic need to serve the best interests of their country—chose to oppose the creation and imposition of the TFG upon the people of Somalia. However, we now find ourselves in a situation where the TFG is an acceptable alternative to oppressive Al Shabaab rule inside Somalia. By declaring war on the Xisbul Islaam group—by means of the targeted assassination of senior Xisbul Islaam personnel—Al Shabaab has formally declared war on the legitimate interests of the Somali nation. Indeed, one could well argue that Al Shabaab has nothing but contempt for the people of Somalia and their well-being. Therefore, Al Shabaab must be fought and defeated. Al Shabaab was quick to avenge the death of Saleh Nabhan at the hands of U.S. special forces—a Kenyan man with alleged links to some the most violent extremist in the world—by attacking the AMISOM troops in Mogadishu by means of two suicide bombings which killed senior AMISOM and TFG officials. Indeed, Al Shabaab never pursues policies which directly benefit the people of Somalia. Xisbul Islaam must now either cease to exist—in the cold light of the new realities which face them—or Xisbul Islaam must find a way to confront Al Shabaab, and with the support of the entire Somali nation. This may well prove to be a difficult road to travel, but the time has come for bold action to be taken by the Xisbul Islaam group. There is plenty of room for both genuine Islamic activism and the patriotic aspirations of the Somali nation. Al Shabaab does not respect legitimate Somali national interests. Al Shabaab is nothing other than a profoundly demonic sect which is determined to achieve the monstrous objectives of transnational violent extremism. As a consequence of this, Al Shabaab is nothing other than a dangerous—and violent—enemy of the Somali nation. Al Shabaab, and not the TFG of Somalia, now represents the greatest obstacle to the full restoration of peace inside Somalia. The time has come to acknowledge this fact. Anything less than the full acknowledgment of this fact by the people of Somalia is a gross dereliction of both civic and patriotic duty. Al Shabaab members, though many of them are Somali nationals—with Somali mothers and fathers—do not possess any feelings of loyalty towards Somalia. Al Shabaab members are only faithful to the brutal requirements of transnational violent extremism which masquerades as the pursuit of Islamic ideals. This subterfuge must never be allowed to prevail inside the Somali national territory. Al Shabaab must be defeated wherever it takes root. Xisbul Islaam must be supported in its hour of need. The senior leadership of Xisbul Islaam must realise that they must share the task of defeating Al Shabaab with their Somali brethren. The people of Somalia fully deserve the restoration of peace and the arrival of genuine prosperity in their homeland.
