The poet describes the Somali people as “people of the same destiny, moulded together by time and history and fighting together in defence of their motherland”. I don’t know if the poet lived long enough to see what some of “These people, These Somalis” have done to Somalia. Here is the poem. These people By birth brought together These people By blood joined These people By nature welded together These people By feature defined These people By time tested These people In tongue uniform These people By culture united These people In Islam blessed These people By boundaries unbarred These people Into five parts divided These people Yearning to be united These people By lone-starred Azure flag liberated These people Under light blue skies Peacefully nomading These people By unkind clouds nurtured These people These Somalis Of the same destiny Moulded together By time and history Shall not perish Nor be enslaved But live and work And fight together In defence of their motherland And be victorious In the name of Allah The merciful and compassionate Allahu akbar Ameen Mohamoud Abdi E-Mail:mohamoud2004@hotmail.com _________________________________________________________________________________ We welcome the submission of all articles for possible publication on WardheerNews.com |
