Oil is good, and all praise and thanks belong to the Provider, Glorified be the One who made the earth and put in it countless bounties for mankind. So glorified be the One who created both man and his needs and provided means for those needs, from above and from below. And in heaven is your provision and whatever you were promised (Quran: 51:22)
Oil is good. They call it the black gold, and if utilized wisely by a real leadership that’s focused on people’s welfare, an imaginative leadership that’s backed by sincere united citizens, oil becomes a blessing then, And with it you could build a whole nation from scratch, and with the stroke of a pen turn a barren habitat into a paradise of lush greenery. The prospects are endless: you could build roads for your cars; make play grounds for your kids; learn how to dispose of your rubbish; teach Qat pushers noble professions; bring hope to Qat victims; hire educated workers from abroad. And by bringing order and progress to your people, towns and airports you could fly direct to Bosaso. Once money starts pouring in, ruler and ruled could become best of friends. And the natives could suddenly become Nationals, but I guess you would need a whole new overhaul in the Somali psyche for that kind of thing to happen. But whoever said, you can’t dream? Now with oil in the Pipeline, Somali Nationals would get noticed abroad, Look there’s an oil-Sheikh, sorry, I mean, oil-Sultan. …Yeah, oil is good, with a few rigs oiling our economy, we could afford to give our history and Nobility a face-life, we could turn our historical relics into hot spots and give Al-Shabab damaged sites a descent burial. With capital you could make films and documentaries of Somali historical figures and bygone heroes, and we could do up our own living Garads and Boqors in fine clothes and decent addresses. That way, you give your damaged self-esteem a boost and give Somali children and youth for once something to be proud of, Hey! There’s a movie on, it’s about Muhammed Abdille Hassan. I am going… Scientists have long pondered about the origins of oil and how it’s formed, but many of these theories could be mere deductions. For the only One who truly knows the inner workings of this product is the One that put it there in the first place, the Originator. Now, this treasure lying for so long in the deep recess of our motherland, one wonders, for how long has it been lying there; veiled from the greedy eyes of Somali men? The story of the wall and the orphaned boys comes to mind. Finding oil is exciting, and we’re looking forward to good times, but we can’t help missing our President, and especially at such uncertain times…isn’t that when you’d need your President the most? So we did miss him in Buuhoodle, and we missed him in Taleex. So what if he was busy with Daror oil Basin? And he couldn’t make it to the battle field in Buuhoodle? But there must be something our President could’ve done, like making use of his cell phone and texting his rowdy friend in Hargeisa, and that while on site photo shooting by the rig: “Waar hooy Siilaanyoow maxaad leedahay? Waa maxay damdamtu? Waar isla yaab oo dadka rayidka ah ka daa dabaabadaha lagu soo gaday lacagta la soo dawarsaday….”
Beside who can deny our President’s role in the opening of our first Well? And above all in the way he dressed up for the great occasion? We Punts we like presidents that dress the part….thank God, our President is not wearing that dismal looking Ex-President Cadde-fashion! There’s plenty of room for improvements, though, and if you weren’t too fastidious you could say the green Tie does match with the green stripe in the Punt-land Flag, somewhat. Let’s just hope Tie doesn’t shrink after washing….Punt-land fashion. Presidents come and Presidents go. But who said there can’t be another role in the future for our 1-Term President? If I were him, I’d start revamping my CV, right now. The Oil Sector is hiring.
