Sofia. Since the beginning of the year this is the third group of illegal immigrants detained at Kulata border checkpoint. It is the biggest one, Zaharin Penov, director of Bulgaria’s Border Police DG, told FOCUS News Agency.
The previous groups were comprised of 13 and 15 people. According to him the reason is the significant number of illegal immigrants who entered Greece through its border with Turkey.
On Sunday the Bulgarian border police detained 20 men and one woman who were trying to illegally enter Bulgaria by a cargo train. The immigrants told the police they did not have identification documents and come from different countries – Algeria, Somalia and the Palestinian Authority. The cargo train was traveling from Greece via Bulgaria and Serbia to Croatia.
