After years of attempts by Muslim women to wear hijabs in soccer, resulting in official refusals on the basis of the need for safety in play, the international rule-making body of FIFA has now formally approved the wearing of the traditional head-dress by Muslim women players.

Most interesting, Montreal fashion designer Elham Seyed Javad designed the hijab that will now be worn around the world where Muslim women play soccer. It is the Canadian spirit of official multiculturalism that has helped find this solution to fully accommodate Muslim women in soccer play.
