It is good news to hear that the Somali Federal Government is soon to be relocating from Nairobi , Kenya , to Baidawa and Jowhar , Somalia . Indeed, the return of the Somali government from exile to homeland will be an auspicious moment.

The future looks murky and the road ahead is rocky and rough. Yet the Somali people hope that all will go well and that things will turn in favor of the government. The Somalis at home and abroad are looking forward to the arrival of the government in Somalia . The Somalis are optimistic and charged with hope and long to see a functioning Somali government in all over Somalia . The people are in dire need of a government that is able to lead the despoiled land to peace, justice, unity and social progress. They want the Somali government to rebrick and piece the divided and restive country together. The Somalis want a government that can guard and respect the rights of the individual and treat the people as equals. The awful times must be brought to an end. Only when there is peace and domestic serenity can the people get on their feet again.

The Somali people, whether from the north or from the south, are one nation. They can resolve and bridge all the differences and surmount all the obstacles if they work as a team. Consequently, they can put their agony to an end once and for all.

The period of last fifteen years has been a period of setbacks and disappointments for the Somali people. The country descended into chaos and darkness. The power fell in the hands of tribal warlords who were at loggerheads and exterminated each other.

The Somali people want the federal government to spark a big and noticeable change. The government is advised to follow a conciliatory policy and build bridges of trust, national consensus, and understanding with all the segments of the Somali people. The government had better idealize Mua'wiya, the Companion of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Mua'wiya relied on the power of persuasion to make friends and influence people.

Let the Somali government and the opposition stop shadow-boxing and try to have a meaningful dialogue bearing in mind the vital interests of the country.

It is an obligatory patriotic duty on every honest and true Somali to support the federal government. Let us all be unity builders and not dividers and dissenters. Let us all reduce acrimony and increase harmony. Let the intellectuals and opinion leaders be part of the solution and not part of the knotty Somali problem. Be it as it may, let us all bear in mind that Somalia will sink in the quicksand if this current Somali government fails to function like its predecessors.

“Help our government and our people through these hard times, O God, Amen.”
