ETHIOPIA GET A WALKOVER AGAINST DJIBOUTI

By Phumzile Ngcatshe

Ethiopia were granted a 3-0 win in their second leg of the 2018 CAF African Championships Qualifiers on Sunday when Djibouti withdrew their participation.

The encounter was set to be staged at Hawassa Stadium in Ethiopia on Sunday, but the visiting side withdrew ahead of the second leg.

In the wake of Djibouti’s withdrawal prior the return leg, the Walia Ibex were handed a win on a walkover and credited with a 3-0 win.

Ethiopia were in an uncompromising mood in the opening leg against the Shoremen of the Red Sea as they handed them a 5-1 defeat at home at Djibouti City last week.

The 8-1 aggregate score for the Central-East African nation takes them closer to booking a spot in Kenya next year.

However, the Ethiopians are set to face Burundi or Sudan (whose match was cancelled) in the deciding match on 11 August 2017.
