Following an investigation at the scene, Postville police officers identified and arrested Herrera. They transported him to the Fayette County jail, where prosecutors charged him with willful injury.

Postville medical professionals transported Hassan to the Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Waukon, from where he was later airlifted to Gunderson Clinic in LaCrosse, Wis. for what police call precautionary reasons, though he is expected to live. Police say Hassan’s injury consists of a single stab wound underneath his left shoulder blade.

Assisting the Postville police department were Monona’s and Calmar’s police departments, plus the Allamakee, Clayton and Fayette county sheriffs’ offices, in addition to the Iowa State Patrol.
