Shocking unprovoked attack on Muslim pensioner as he drove to morning prayers caught on CCTV

A Muslim pensioner could be left blind after being battered as he drove to morning prayers in an unprovoked attack.

The 64-year-old was in his car at around 3.10am when a man and a woman approached him as he stopped at the junction.

The pair had been arguing before the man turned to the victim and asked: ‘What are you looking at?”

The victim replied that he was only looking at the junction.

But the thug approached the driver’s window, leaned through and punched the him several times without warning.

He then kicked the driver’s door as he tried to get out before fleeing.

The entire shocking incident in Kilburn, North West London, was caught on CCTV.

The victim suffered a fractured eye socket and could potentially lose his sight altogether.

Police say he has since decided to return to his native country to visit relatives in case he is never able to see them again.

The attacker is around 25, Middle Eastern, with short dark hair. He was with a woman who is white and slim.

Detective Constable Nikki Hubbard said: “This was a brutal and unprovoked attack on a defenceless man going about his business. As well as the terrifying assault, the victim is now facing the real prospect of losing his eyesight.

“He arranged to meet his family before his eye procedure as this may be the last opportunity he ever gets to see them. This is a horrible crime and we need to identify and catch the culprit.”

Police are trying to trace the woman who was with the attacker, and a witness who saw what happened.

The incident happened at 3.10am on July 2.
