Somali security forces arrested two reporters at Universal TV after they moderated a debate between two lawmakers critical of Ethiopia’s deployment of troops in the country.
Armed officers of the national security agency arrested the journalists late on Friday at the station’s headquarters in the capital, Mogadishu, Abdulaziz Ibrahim Ahmed, head of the news department, said by phone. No reasons were given for the arrest, he said.
Ethiopian troops form part of the African Union’s peacekeeping mission in Somalia, known as Amisom.
