U.K. Terror attacks: Is there a solution in the horizon?

By Abubakar N. Kasim

In the name of Allah,

London’s terror attacks is another cycle of senseless violence which seems to have no ending in the foreseeable future.

Innocent people including Muslims are indiscriminately targeted. Politicians almost use the same response in every attack  that ‘we are under attack for our values and freedom we cherish.’ Muslim leaders quickly draft strong statement of  condemnation which are never perceived as strong and loud enough.

Regular Muslims who work hard to support their families pay the price at many fronts. While they can be the target of the attacks they are also viewed with suspicion and contempt. They are harassed at the workplace and at schools. They are forced to defend their religion and some times they are attacked and their places or worship are vandalized.

I wonder why I don’t see any honest attempt to tackle this ugly cycle phenomenon once and for all by all sides including Muslim leaders and politicians to come together and study root causes that is contributing to these heinous crimes.

We as human species have advanced in finding cures of many diseases. We are even on our path to open the doors of tourism to  outer spaces  in the near future. Why we deploy every expert to study the root causes of violence and mass shootings  at schools and  don’t do the same with this issue? Why don’t our muslim leaders stand up tall and engage politicians and the media with a different approach instead of mimicking the same statements of indirectly taking responsibility and issuing condemnation which has never worked?

Amidst all this, our children suffer psychologically and loose their self confidence and some even disassociate themselves with anything which identify themselves as Muslims

We as humans have advanced in many areas and have used our minds to find the solutions to many of our problems. Why have we failed to tackle this issue heads on?

There are indeed factors that are contributing to these violence.

We must be brave and honest enough to discuss it. We shouldn’t shy away from discussing any issue including:

– military invasions
– drone attacks
– meddling in affairs of other countries
– blind support of ruthless dictators
– support of democracy overseas only when it suits
– interpretation of religious text which could be influential to extremism
– biased approach to Middle East conflict

Muslim leaders ought to come up with a different approach altogether to deal with these dangerous trend. Life will become unbearable for Muslims in the future. Laws are introduced to make their lives a living nightmare.

Right wing politicians dance with joy and celebrate over these attacks. They portray themselves as heroes who have the means to deal with Muslims and eventually people like Trump are elected.

It is the time for humans to come together and deal with this phenomenon with some sense of honesty.
