According to the secretary of former Yemeni president, the current leader Hadi and his government had entirely lost control of the city of Aden. He added that Houthi forces will enter the city in a matter of hours.
CAIRO (Sputnik) – Beleaguered Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi is currently on his way to Djibouti, the secretary of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, Ahmad Sufi, said on Wednesday.
Earlier on Wednesday, a source at the Yemeni government told Sputnik that Hadi had left Aden for an unknown destination.
“He had three countries to flee to – Oman, Saudi Arabia and Djibouti. Oman is too far, it’s too late to fly to Saudi Arabia, since the airport is under fire, so he had to travel by sea to Djibouti,” Sufi told RIA Novosti.
He also said Hadi and his government had entirely lost control of the city of Aden. He added that Houthi forces will enter the city in a matter of hours.
Yemen is currently torn by a civil war, with Houthi militia fighting troops loyal to the country’s president and al-Qaeda militants making advances in the south of the country.
Earlier in the day, Yemeni Foreign Minister Riyadh Yassin told Sputnik that Hadi had officially requested the League of Arab States to deploy troops in the country to stop a takeover of his government by ethnic Houthis.
