ason Scotland-Williams, 34, is currently being investigated after finishing last weekend’s race in three hours, eight minutes and 47 seconds, running the second half in a time quicker than Olympic gold medallist and eighth-placed Farah.

Fellow runners voiced their suspicions online, suggesting he must have skipped part of the race to record such a fast time.

But he insists he did not cheat, and has been quoted by the Telegraph as saying: ‘I have done nothing wrong. This was my sixth London marathon.

‘I’m a personal trainer. I train every day, seven days a week, for the past seven years. Nobody thinks maybe I just trained hard. No one thinks “maybe he paced himself through the first half and when the second half came he just let himself go”.

‘All along the route are stewards and people watching. There’s no way you can cheat.’

Scotland-Williams had reached the halfway point in two hours, seven minutes and five seconds. Had he continued at the same pace he would have finished in just over four hours and 14 minutes – over an hour slower than his eventual finish time.

He completed the second half in one hour, one minute and 47 seconds, when Mo Farah finished the same distance in one hour, five minutes and 13 seconds.

Further suspicions were raised by the fact Scotland-Williams did not record a chip time at the 25km, 30km and 35km points, leading to suspicions he jumped over the barrier at Tower Bridge, shaving nine miles off of the course.
